About the Presenter:
Richard Purdin works for The Ohio State University Extension as an Agriculture/Natural Resources and Community Development Educator for Adams County, Ohio. He was born and raised in Adams County on a grain and livestock farm. Today, he still farms with his father near Winchester where they raise beef cattle, hogs, sheep, corn, soybeans, tobacco, and hay. Richard is the fifth generation in his family to farm. Growing up, Richard always wanted to make a difference in agriculture and his community. This led him to Wilmington College where he earned his bachelor's degree in plant, environment, and soil science. After college, he started his career as a Conservation Technician for the Adams County Soil and Water Conservation District. He worked with farmers and general landowners, helping them better conserve natural resources. After 6 years in that position, he pursued his current career with the OSU Extension. Richard's focus is to help address challenges that face our rural communities and small farming businesses.
