"Doc" Kennedy returns to the HFC Safety Council with his popular and interactive discussion about recognizing workplace stress and violence. Dr. William (Doc) Kennedy is a husband and father of two adult children. He’s a business consultant and sports, clinical, and forensic psychologist based in Wilmington Ohio. He graduated from Wilmington College (’91), where he received degrees in psychology and mathematics. He then attended the School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) at Wright State University, graduating with his doctorate in clinical psychology in 1995. Dr. Kennedy worked as a prison psychologist conducting risk assessments, sex offender evaluations, pre-parole evaluations, and providing services and therapy in a state correctional facility. He directed the clinical portion of the Duke E. Ellis Institute, a community based mental health and training facility in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Kennedy also directed mental health services at Wilberforce University. Currently, he maintains a full time private practice and consulting practice in Wilmington, Ohio. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Kennedy works with individuals and families around various mental health related issues. As a sports psychologist, Dr. Kennedy consults with amateur and professional athletes and organizations to help improve performance, prevent injuries and reduce recovery time, and improve group dynamics and cohesion. As a forensic psychologist, Dr. Kennedy works with the courts, law enforcement, and attorneys conducting risk assessments, not guilty by reason of insanity assessments, custody related issues, and treatment. Dr. Kennedy also has 30 years of experience in martial arts. He holds the Master Rank of Go Dan (5th degree black belt), in Chi-mu Toruku Jitsu. He is a founder of Team Torque Martial Arts, a martial arts program also located in Wilmington with the mission of connecting mental health, physical health, and safety & security. Team Torque offers traditional classes, therapeutic based martial arts, and self-protection training. As a consultant and trainer, Dr. Kennedy works with individuals, and various sized businesses in areas including project development and problem solving, executive coaching, mission and vision development, and planning. Dr. Kennedy has been the evaluator for a federally-funded violence prevention program involving 19 states and the District of Columbia. Dr. Kennedy provides training and seminars for organizations such as OSHA around workplace violence. He developed the ADAPT model of self-protection for healthcare professionals, teaching it to healthcare agencies and through the Ohio BWC. Dr. Kennedy consults extensively with private and nonprofit businesses around safety issues. Threat assessment, workplace safety, de-escalation hostile employees, and training around safety and security are all topics that are frequently addressed. He is also a consultant to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and an advisor to the Wilmington Police Department and on their hostage negotiation team.
