Membership Engagement Specialist

The Membership Engagement Specialist will oversee the membership initiatives of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce, assist with the Chamber’s communication and event planning needs, and provide assistance to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, committees, and chamber members. This position should have a love for helping businesses succeed, provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional and be able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This is a full-time position. (40 hours/week).
Primary Objectives:
This position will work with the Chamber office staff, event committees and volunteers to:

  • Oversee the membership initiatives of the Chamber of Commerce (including engaging existing members, onboarding new members, and facilitating membership leads), and
  • Assist with the Chamber’s communication and event planning needs (e-blasts, social media posts, website, committee meetings) to create brand awareness and drive top-of-mind engagement of membership activities and benefits
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will have the ability to take charge and anticipate project needs, establish work priorities, meet deadlines with little supervision and be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Reception/General Operation
  • Answer and direct incoming calls, greet guests and members, monitor and respond to emails, and handle mail distribution
  • Prepare and coordinate promotional and member mass mailings, update contact database, and order office supplies
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Chamber office and complete errands as needed
 
Membership
  • Maintain member database, process new membership applications, and provide support with membership programs and discounts
  • Coordinate member programs, membership renewals, and member communications
 
Administration
  • Assist with board, committee, and event administration, attend board meetings, and handle accounts receivable details
  • Prepare and process invoices, and maintain bookkeeping systems
  • Handle all aspects of event registration and event sponsor tracking
 
Communications & Event Promotion
  • Develop and implement marketing plans for special events, write online posts, press releases, newsletters, and website content
  • Update and maintain the Chamber’s social media pages and website as required
  • Manage and compose monthly newsletter for Chamber members
  • Manage event plans, conduct research, work with vendors, track finances, and provide progress reports to Chamber staff and Board
  • Be available to work all event dates and assist with closeout procedures
     
All other duties as assigned by Executive Director
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required, college degree preferred in areas of communications, marketing, event planning, or business management.
  • Must work with minimal supervision, possess excellent oral and written communication skills and have a high degree of professionalism and organization.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in high stress situations
  • Must have excellent written and verbal interpersonal relation skills and problem-solving skills to enhance the image of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce.
Software Requirements:
  • Microsoft Office Package: Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
  • Gmail and Google Suite
  • Social Media Page Management: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X
  • Software programs that will be taught while on the job: ChamberMaster (membership database software), QuickBooks, WordPress, Canva, ​​Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign
Physical Demand/Working Conditions:
  • High level of physical mobility/activity -- lifting of items of 25 lbs. or more.  I.E.: cases of soda, coolers, decorations, event materials. Physical mobility required in set up and take down of events.
  • Required to provide own reliable transportation, a current Ohio driver’s license, and meet the minimum requited limit of liability insurance as established by the State of Ohio. Outside travel (attending luncheons, meetings, community activities -- local, and county will be necessary. The Chamber does reimburse employees for mileage incurred during business hours and events.
  • Position may require a rather limited amount of out-of-town travel. The Chamber covers all business travel expenses in these instances.
  • Provide own mobile phone.
  • This position may require a schedule that is flexible enough to allow for meetings and events outside of normal business hours. Occasionally it will require extra hours to ensure successful events and projects. Understand the importance of flexibility pertaining to duties and willingness to take on new tasks with an ‘out of the box’ approach.
The total compensation package (which could include health, dental and vision insurance) range for this position will be $16-$20 per hour. The position is full time (40 hours per week) with paid holidays, paid vacation (after 6 months) and paid sick leave.
